Myers Industries is proud to report an impressive 26 percent reduction in year-over-year recordable injuries, with incidents in 2024 dropping to 53, compared with 72 in 2023. Highlighting this achievement was the third quarter, when only nine injuries were recorded-the lowest total in a quarter for Myers in four years.
Additionally, the company's 2024 Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), a metric used by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to assess workplace safety, improved to 1.94. This figure significantly outperformed the industry average of 2.9 for plastic and rubber manufacturers. In fact, Myers' TRIR has consistently trended downward since 2021 and is approaching the company's best-ever score of 1.83.
These achievements reflect Myers' unwavering focus on fostering a culture of safety and accountability across its 30 locations worldwide, which includes 16 manufacturing sites.
Myers is also proud to announce the winners of its second annual Superior Safety Award competition. Congratulations to the outstanding employees at these locations:
- Scarborough, Ont., Canada (Blow Molding platform)
- South Bend, Ind. (Rotational Molding platform)
- Los Angeles (Distribution platform)
The Superior Safety Award, a companywide safety competition, evaluates performance across all Myers facilities, assessing key metrics such as TRIR, Lost Time Case Rate, employee participation in safety training, and scores from internal safety audits. By comparing results among sites-and benchmarking against industry standards-Myers determines the year's top locations for workplace safety.
"These results demonstrate what's possible when we empower employees to take ownership of their safety and the safety of those around them," said Aaron Schapper, President and CEO. "At Myers, safety is foundational to every decision we make, and I am grateful for the dedication of employees who live our safety principles every day-cultivating a workplace where everyone goes home safely."
For 2025, Myers will continue to prioritize safety. The company is committed to strengthening its safety culture through enhanced training programs, employee-led safety initiatives, and advanced safety technologies-all to reduce risk and promote a proactive safety culture.
