Myers Industries, Inc. (NYSE: MYE) celebrated the wrap up of their 2015 United Way Campaign on Friday October 9th. Since the inception of this annual employee giving campaign Myers and its employees have contributed approximately $3.3 million in cash donations to the greater Akron area.
This year’s campaign which ran from Tuesday September 29th – Friday October 9th centered on the theme All In for United Way and focused on educating employees about United Way and the agencies they support. The event kicked-off with a company breakfast and presentation from guest speaker Jim Mullen, President & CEO of United Way of Summit County. Through the course of the week the campaign committee ran a series of spotlight programs featuring different agencies that partner with United Way. The agencies featured included: Akron Canton Regional Foodbank, Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Community Health Center, Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Summit & Medina Counties, Stewart’s Caring Place, Family Promise of Summit County, Inc., Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio, Mature Services, and the Summit County Fatherhood Initiative.
In addition to the educational programs offered during the week the committee also hosted a companywide bake-off to raise funds for the campaign. Featuring homemade treats made by their co-workers, employees could purchase samples and then vote on their favorite treat. The company also hosted its traditional raffle drawings for a number of prizes donated by community partners that included a grand prize package from Infiniti of Akron. The grand prize package included an overnight hotel stay, dinner, and special events tickets for downtown Cleveland plus the use of a new Infiniti QX60 for the weekend. A pie in the face contest offered employees a chance to stuff the jar with cash to support their favorite charitable cause, sponsored by a company manager, and the manager with the most money took a pie in the face at the wrap up event.
The culmination of all campaign events occurred Friday October 9th during a lunch time celebration including food, prizes and music. Infiniti of Akron was on site to announce the winner of the grand prize raffle.
John C. Orr, president & CEO said, “Supporting our local community is a priority for both Myers Industries as a company and our employees. I am proud of the increased commitment our employees have shown over the last 16 years to United Way and the services they support.” Orr also said, “I am pleased to witness this incredible milestone and I know the employees will continue to make a positive impact within the Akron community for years to come.”
In addition to United Way of Summit County, Myers employees also participate in charitable giving and volunteering for many other local organizations including ACCESS, Habitat for Humanity, Summit County Children’s Services, Junior Achievement, and the Soap Box Derby. This holiday season, in partnership with Infiniti of Akron, Myers Industries corporate office will also be a drop box location for the annual U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign.
